It isn't uncommon for me to hear some variation of- that is our "one" thing when talking to people about cash flow. For example, my wife and I's "one thing" could be we buy reasonably fancy coffee beans that we grind each morning for coffee.
While I am not suggesting we should remove all sorts of luxuries, I do think it is worth recognizing that likely that "one thing," is more like several hundred things. For example, almost all of us live in a nicer home, drive a nicer car, eat better food, wear nicer clothes, etc. etc. etc. than we would have to.
It is easy to look around and compare yourselves to that one random acquaintance that you heard went on a nice vacation and then say "well all I do is... xyz." This isn't helpful for improving contentment or improving cash flow.
Instead of falling prey to the comparison trap, consider waking up each and every day and writing down five things you are thankful for. I know my wife and I and I can find a lot more than just fancy coffee beans.
Praise God that we have much to be grateful for.
