The act of being generous is not something that just the rich can do. In fact, I once witnessed an act of generosity from someone who had next to nothing.
Our church has a campus that is primarily focused on serving the homeless. A meal is served and then a traditional church service is done. Our small group was serving the meal, when someone in line asked me if we had any belts in the clothing ministry. To be honest, I have only served there a few times and kind of stuttered being unsure whether we did or not. Immediately the person behind him in the food line, said here have mine and took off his belt and gave it away. It reminded me of Luke 3:11 - "John answered, 'Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same."
Jesus also famously witnessed a poor widow giving two coins away and said she gave more than anyone else. Generosity is not just for the rich and it isn't ultimately about the amount. I believe saying that once you reach this financial goal or once you have XYZ then you will give is missing the heart behind the reason for generosity.
Don't wait to practice generosity until you feel rich. Oftentimes those that are very rich do not feel that way. Start practicing generosity now.
