It wouldn’t shock me if around 85% of what I do each day (excluding Sunday’s and sleeping) is somehow related to money. I love helping bring order and intentionality to people’s finances but that much time spent thinking about money is a little exhausting at times.
I was thinking about all this and it made me wonder: What are my favorite things I have ever spent money on?
The first one that came to mind was from back when Allie and I were first married. A young kid came up to the apartment we were in, rang the doorbell, and said as he holds out an old beat-up carpenter’s square, “Found some silver. Want to buy some?”
From lemonade stands to old beat up worthless tools, it is hard for me to turn a kid salesman down. I went and found an old plastic jar where I had been storing up a bunch of coins and gave him my jar of coins for the “silver.” The kid was over the moon excited. So much so that his mom (whom I did not know) came over to thank me for entertaining her aspiring young salesman. I still smile about that. Money was a tool used to bring joy.
Money is exhausting primarily when you think of hoarding it or fear over losing it. It is much less exhausting if you think of it as a tool to bring joy and build relationships with those around you.
Is there something you could spend money on this week that would make money “less exhausting?”
